Dubious Radical

Some artists there really can’t handle criticism like at all. And it is quite frustrating.

I asked this guy (who made a cross in ms pain to honor the fallen at Colorado) why the cross was uneven. He said it hurt. So I replied with “I’m sorry” and he wrote back “it’s fine, but still bothersome” but you know what angered me? He didn’t care enough to fix it, he just admitted his mistake and said I offended him.

He was just “I take that as an offense”. Why? If he really cared about his art, he would have taken much more time on it. He would have straightened it out if it mattered to him that much that I noticed it was crooked.

Then I proceeded to ask “why did he do art?” to try to answer for myself why he took offense.

I think he is way to sensitive. He typed back “that is like asking why does a bird fly?”

I don’t see why it is bad to ask an artist why an artist is an artist. In fact I think it’s important. To keep us in check so we understand who we are, why we do what we do. To legitimize who we are to ourselves.

But what really angered me was his inability to take criticism. Just, how can one improve if one is afraid to admit that others can see fault?
